Castles aren’t strictly European. There are hundreds of castles located throughout America, including 11 in Arizona (most notably Tovrea Castle, now a City of Phoenix park and garden). Other castles can be found in Tucson, Prescott, Vail, Copper Creek, Lake Havasu City, Desert View, Kingman and Dewey. AT RIGHT: True to form, a coat of arms plaque bearing the castle’s name is mounted to the left of the front door. Also guarding the castle’s entrance are wrought-iron lamp posts with black gargoyles on them, adding to Copenhaver Castle’s mysterious allure.
